Grabengarten (Moat Garden)
Established in 2006 on the site of the former town moat, the Grabengarten has flourished into a much-loved green retreat along the historical town wall. Spanning approximately 2,200 m², it is one of the town’s most popular spots for leisure and relaxation, beautifully framed by beds of roses.
Once the moat was no longer required for defence, it was filled in, allotment gardens were created, the town wall was restored, and a new path was laid to provide access to the garden. The spacious lawns invite visitors to enjoy ball games, leisurely walks, or picnics, while benches shaded by mature trees offer a peaceful place to unwind.
A particularly charming feature is the public book kiosk, set in a repurposed telephone box, where visitors are free to borrow or donate books.
Since 2019, the garden has also included a modern children’s playground, complete with a double swing, slide, climbing tower, and balancing equipment. A volleyball net is available too and regularly used for community training sessions, made possible through support from the local council and sports association.
The highlight of the year for families is the Grabengarten Festival – a free, family-friendly celebration packed with activities such as inflatables, a foam party, children’s theatre, storytelling sessions, live music, and more.
